Behaviorist Therapy, Communitarian and Preventive Psychology, Clinical Practice at the School-Clinics, Enuresis
Since the beginning of my research at Universidade de São Paulo my main interest has been to work with the families who seek the School-Clinic at the Department of Clinical Psychology of IPUSP and other School-Clinics across the country. Thus, I have developed – with undergraduate and postgraduate students – various research projects on children’s behavioral and socio-economical description at different higher education Psychology Institutions in several Brazilian states. Between 2003 and 2005, The data acquired from the first client-chart studies was confirmed by the data obtained from a single reception screening questionnaire: the child-behavior verification checklist (CBCL), which was used in five Brazilian school clinics.

This work has allowed the possibility of setting behaviorist clinical strategies, which on the one hand caters for the students’ qualification and on the other hand assures the best-quality clinical care for the children who seek the Brazilian Psychology school-clinics. Thus, our postgraduate students ‘work deserve a mention. Their work, as well as ours, is a constitutive part of the Communitarian and Preventive Psychology Fields: Twenty Scientific Investigations have been defended (five Master’s thesis and eight doctoral theses).

Currently, after the creation of the national urine alarm at the Behaviorist Therapy Lab, I have developed research projects which aim at new forms of behaviorist psychological treatment at the school-clinics to cater for a complaint: monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis. Countless research studies on this area (in coauhorship of students and colleagues) have been published, aside from four dissertations.

Two books on this approach stand out, one edited by me and published by Papirus (Estudos de caso em Psicologia Clinica comportamental infantil, which is on its third edition already) and another one which I’ve written in coauthorship with Dra. Maura Nunes Alves Gongora, published by Edicon (Psicologia Clínica Comportamental: a inserção da entrevista com adultos e com crianças) . I have organized yet another book which is to be published this year by Editora Alínea (Atendimento psicológico em clinicas-escola).
