Created in 1998, LEFE is a laboratory of the Department of Psychology of Learning, Development and Personality of the Institute of Psychology at USP which develops training, research and extension activities, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Laiz Maria Silva Chohfi and collaborating professor Prof. Dr. Henriette T. P. Morato. It derived from the Psychological Counseling Service (SAP), founded in 1969 on the initiative of professors Dr. Oswaldo de Barros Santos and Dr. Rachel Lea Rosenberg. Rachel Lea Rosenberg, as a place for training undergraduate students in psychology, research in Psychological Counseling and free service to the community in need of psychological attention – it aims to broaden the approach from an existential phenomenological perspective, by offering subjects, courses and internships at undergraduate and postgraduate level (lato sensu and stricto sensu), promoting scientific events and publishing papers and research in the area, as well as providing service and/or advice to health, education and public safety institutions. It also aims to develop studies and resources that generate contributions and subsidies for teaching, research and community service activities (advising and/or supervising institutions) made possible through extension projects with the participation of psychologists and students (postgraduate and undergraduate).

LEFE offers psychological care to the community, users and employees of public institutions, in everyday work and/or in situations of helplessness in the face of urban violence.

The service offered to the community at the clinic-school is On-Call Psychological Care. For more information on interventions in the community, see the section on extension projects at.

Significant Learning in the training of health and education professionals (CNPq Directory)

The technocracy of today’s world and society challenges psychology due to the fragmentation and social, ethical and political helplessness of contemporary man. The CNPq Research Group is based on attention to social demands for psychological practice that deconstructs the hegemony of modern thought. Investigations are aimed at problematizing the tense relations between this practice and the institutions in which it takes place.

The gaps promoted by this practice are investigated, transforming the training and performance of health and education professionals in offering quality services to the community. Setting out to question meaningful learning, explores modalities of psychological practice, impeding situations, in order to point out possible reversal of established spaces that are not active in their purposes. The research involves interventional practice immersed in the social fabric, to learning of professionals, revealed by the community assisted. They investigate methodology for welcoming human suffering, turning it into social action multiplier: social intervention research projects in institutions hospital (PUCCAMP, HCUFPE, HCUFRN), educational (guardianship councils, communities, FEBEM), public security (DP and PM) and legal (TJPE, DJFDUSP). The subjects include undergraduate, specialization and postgraduate courses, both established and emerging, forming a critical mass in underserved regions. They produce thesis projects, dissertations, scientific initiation, seminars, national symposiums, presentations at national congresses and international, participation in relevant boards (USP, PUCSP, PUCCAMP, UFES, UFPE, UFRN, UNICAP, UNIP). There are annual joint publications between researchers, teachers and students (see LATTES).

There are scientific collaboration agreements between national and international laboratories.

The PRÁXIS agreement is between the Institute of Psychology of the University of São Paulo, the Catholic University of Pernambuco, the Fluminense Federal University and the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil) with the University of Évora and University of Beira Interior (Portugal) with a view to academic cooperation for the exchange of lecturers/researchers, students and members of the technical-administrative team. 2022
