2. Scholarship rules

Regular students interested in obtaining a scholarship must apply within a period to be defined annually.

All scholarship holders must apply for the renewal of their scholarship every year, in a period to be defined, and with the documentation listed.

The PPG-PSA/IPUSP postgraduate scholarship quota for master’s and doctoral courses is designed to support the training of human resources at postgraduate level. Scholarships from Capes and CNPq funding agencies will be awarded subject to availability through a selection process. Scholarships are not guaranteed to all regular students entering the PPG-PSA master’s and doctoral programs. This depends on the time of entry, the current number of scholarships, the number of entrants interested in scholarships, the scholarship programs in place at any given time, the current situation of current scholarship holders, among other possible situations. It is important to note that simply expressing an interest in a scholarship and then being placed on the list of scholarships does not necessarily mean being awarded a scholarship. For more precise information, please see the information below:

Capes Scholarships / Social Demand (DS) (Program quota):

It is important that people interested in receiving a master’s or doctoral scholarship from the program pay attention to the requirements defined by Ordinance No. 76 of April 14, 2010 (TEACHING INTERNSHIP article 18). The teaching internship is an integral part of the postgraduate student’s training, with the aim of preparing them for teaching and qualifying undergraduate teaching, and is compulsory for all Social Demand Program scholarship holders, in accordance with the following criteria: I – for the program that has both master’s and doctoral levels, the obligation will be restricted to the doctoral level; II – for the program that only has a master’s level, the teaching internship obligation will be transferred to the master’s level; III – Institutions that do not offer undergraduate courses must partner with other higher education institutions to meet the teaching internship requirements; IV – the teaching internship may be remunerated at the discretion of the Institution, and the use of funds passed on by CAPES is prohibited; V – the minimum duration of the teaching internship will be one semester for the master’s degree and two semesters for the doctorate and the maximum duration for the master’s degree will be two semesters and three semesters for the doctorate; VII – higher education teachers who can prove such activities will be exempt from the teaching internship; VIII – the activities of the teaching internship must be compatible with the research area of the postgraduate program carried out by the postgraduate student. IX – if there is specific coordination between the education systems agreed by the competent authorities and the other conditions established in this article are observed, the teaching internship will be allowed to be carried out in the public high school network; X – the maximum workload of the teaching internship will be 4 hours per week).

For Capes scholarship holders (Program quota and PRPG quota):

For the Master’s degree, the student will only have to take the Pedagogical Preparation course, which can be taken at IP or at another USP unit. This link lists the accredited courses. https://www.prpg.usp.br/pt-br/faca-pos-na-usp/111-pae/etapa-de-preparacao-pedagogica

For PhD students, in addition to the course, they must also take the PAE – Teaching Improvement Program https://www.prpg.usp.br/pt-br/pae/o-que-pae

For Fapesp scholarships:

To obtain grants from FAPESP, students and their supervisors must apply directly to this funding agency for a specific grant. To do this, a research project must be submitted.

The student must already be officially enrolled on the master’s or doctorate course in order to apply for a grant from Fapesp. However, in agreement with their advisor, it is possible to start preparing the project before enrolling, as this task requires a lot of time and effort. To do this, it is important that the student is sure that he or she will actually be enrolled on the master’s or doctorate course.

Consult information on the Fapesp website and talk to your advisor.

Duration of the scholarship:

a) Master’s degree – up to 24 (twenty-four) months, non-extendable;

b) regular doctorate, up to 48 (forty-eight) months, non-extendable;

Students who obtain the scholarship after their first year in the program will receive it for the period proportional to the time remaining in their studies

Scholar’s obligations:

The granting of a scholarship from federal research funding agencies implies a commitment on the part of the scholarship holder to the Graduate Program in School Psychology and Human Development, under the following terms:

Full dedication to the activities of the Graduate Program in School Psychology and Human Development;

Proof of satisfactory academic performance, according to the rules defined by the organization promoting the course, with special emphasis on the following points:

Annual submission of an activity report (Annual Scientific Report). In order to renew the scholarship, the supervisor’s opinion or assessment must be observed in the activity report;

Not to have failed any subject.

No course canceled during the semester.

Do not accumulate another scholarship of any kind from another program or public funding agency;

Not retired or in a similar situation;

Carry out a teaching internship in accordance with the specific regulations of each funding agency (Capes);

Account for the bench fee (CNPq doctorate only) at the end of the scholarship, in accordance with CNPq guidelines (subject to availability as mentioned in item 2, The Scholarship)

Regularly update the lattes curriculum;

Produce at least 1 paper presentation at a scientific event or 1 publication of an article/chapter/book every 12 months of the scholarship;

Works produced or published, in any media, that result from activities financed, in whole or in part, by CAPES, must make reference to the support received in accordance with CAPES Ordinance No. 206, of September 4, 2018;

Failure to fulfill the above obligations may result in the cancellation of the scholarship.

Accumulation of grants:

Capes, through CAPES Ordinance No. 133 of July 10, 2023, now allows the accumulation of scholarships with paid activities and other income. However, considering the parameters of diversity and affirmative action, the CCP-PSA believes that the criteria for distributing scholarships should prioritize students who do not have any type of income.

The Ordinance also establishes that the accumulation of master’s, doctoral and post-doctoral scholarships in the country with other national or international scholarships of the same level, financed with federal public funds, remains prohibited.

Omissions will be submitted to the Coordination Committee of the Graduate Program in School Psychology and Human Development.
