The Graduate Program in School Psychology and Human Development at the Institute of Psychology of the University of São Paulo was founded in 1970 (master’s degree) and 1974 (doctorate). At the time, Rector Miguel Reale signed the authorization document on June 16, 1970 and the resolution was published in the Federal Official Gazette (D.O.U.) through Process No. 4108/7010 on June 19, 1970. The doctorate level, on the other hand, was approved on January 21, 1974.
It’s been 52 years of history and development, with the reconfiguration and improvement of research proposals and perspectives, accompanied by the renewal of the teaching staff. This process involves internal discussions and development, development of the training process, expansion of activities with extension courses and social intervention practices, internationalization actions, participation in development agencies and even critical dialogue with the higher levels of assessment and evaluation of the country’s postgraduate programs. Since then, approximately 30 professors have completed their academic-intellectual career as permanent professors in our program, contributing to its development and consolidation.
Throughout its history, the Program has established itself as a center of production and reference in the area of School, Educational and Human Development Psychology, training most of the teachers and researchers who today work in this area in the most varied postgraduate programs in Brazil, both in public universities and in the private sector.
The masters and doctors trained here came from all regions of Brazil, as well as from various Latin American countries and Mozambique in Africa. On the Program’s website there is an archive with the abstracts of the theses and dissertations supervised by each professor from 1970 to 2010. From 2010 onwards, as most of the theses and dissertations are available on USP’s Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (http://www.teses.usp.br/), the Program only keeps a list of the defenses carried out each year on the website, with the name of the author and the work.
