Special students in the Postgraduate Program are those enrolled only in isolated disciplines without any link with any USP Graduate Program.

Special students will be entitled to a certificate of approval in disciplines, issued by the Postgraduate Committee (CPG) at the Unit.

Acceptance of the special student must be approved by the Program Coordinating Committee (CCP), after hearing the teacher responsible for the discipline.

At the discretion of the adviser, when passing from a special student to a regular student, credit may be taken in courses taken separately for up to three hundred and sixty-five days prior to the date of enrollment, limited to one third of the total minimum credits required in course.

In exceptional cases, in the opinion of the CCP, they may be admitted for enrollment in postgraduate courses, as special students, undergraduate students of the University of São Paulo, provided they are sent by accredited counselors in a Postgraduate Program at USP and who are participating in scientific initiation activities.

The credits thus obtained may be computed in the set necessary to obtain the title of Master or Doctor, provided that the student is admitted, after approval in the selection process, in one of these courses, within a maximum term of three years after completion of the discipline.

Entries must be made at the Postgraduate Secretaries of the respective courses, on the dates established in the Academic Calendar of Post of each Unit.

Regular student of other “stricto sensu” Graduate Programs, outside the USP or holder of a higher education diploma that does not have a link with “stricto sensu” Graduate Programs, may enroll in discipline as a special student, provided that authorized by the person in charge of the discipline.

The Program will inform on its site the disciplines that will offer places for special student, with authorization of the person in charge of the discipline, who will define the criteria for acceptance.

The teacher responsible for the discipline may authorize, for each class offered, a maximum of four special students without a link.

The special student can take up to two subjects, in a consecutive semester or not, in a similar program or not.

Credits Specialized Student

Disciplines taken as a special student may be validated, up to one-third of the minimum required, provided they are related to the postgraduate research project and approved by the Postgraduate Committee (CPG). However, the time to obtain the title of Master or Doctor will be retroacted to the date of enrollment of the first course studied as a special and validated student.
